Troubleshooting

Symptoms: Integration status shows authentication failureSolutions:
  • Verify the Username and Password are correct
  • Ensure credentials were entered without extra spaces
  • Confirm the account is not locked or expired in Censornet
  • Test the credentials by logging directly into Censornet
  • Contact your Censornet administrator if you forgot the password
Symptoms: Connection succeeds but no web filtering data appearsSolutions:
  • Verify the account has Super User permissions in Censornet
  • Navigate to Settings > User Management in Censornet to check permissions
  • Ensure the account is not restricted to specific organisational units
  • Review the Censornet Documentation for required permissions
  • Consider creating a dedicated admin account with full permissions
Symptoms: Integration fails to connect or times outSolutions:
  • Verify the Censornet portal is accessible and online
  • Check firewall rules allow outbound HTTPS (443) to Censornet
  • Test the Censornet URL in a browser to ensure connectivity
  • Verify your internet connection is stable
  • Try connecting again after waiting a few minutes
Symptoms: Integration shows active but no web filtering data appearsSolutions:
  • Verify there is web filtering policy data in Censornet to collect
  • Check that the admin account has visibility to all policies
  • Ensure web filtering is enabled and actively processing data in Censornet
  • Review ThreatAware integration logs for errors
  • Wait up to 30 minutes for initial data sync to complete

Best practices

Credential Management
  • Create a dedicated Super User account specifically for ThreatAware
  • Document the account in your organisation’s credential manager
  • Rotate passwords annually or per your security policy
  • Monitor for authentication failures in ThreatAware regularly
  • Do not share the account with other systems or users
Security Considerations
  • Ensure the service account has only the necessary Super User permissions
  • Limit account usage to ThreatAware integration only
  • Review Censornet audit logs periodically to monitor account usage
  • Follow your organisation’s principle of least privilege
  • Consider IP whitelisting if Censornet supports it
